Happy New Year!... and above all, happy reflections!
A moment to pause and recharge
I hope you were able to enjoy the holiday season by stepping out of your usual routine and sharing meaningful moments with family, friends and loved ones.
And I also hope you found time to recharge - whether out in nature or in the comfort of your home - by doing something you love and that genuinely nourishes you.
A start to the year that feels out of sync with nature?
For many of us in the northern hemisphere, returning to work in January often means intensity, stress, tight deadlines and long hours. A pace that quickly drains the little energy we have left after the whirlwind of year-end activities and holiday celebrations.
A look at the plant and animal kingdoms
Yet when we observe the plant and animal kingdoms around us, winter is, for them, a season of slowing down, hibernation and rest.
Winter in Chinese medicine
Similarly, in Chinese medicine, winter is the season when yin energy reaches its peak - a feminine energy associated with calm, receptivity, darkness and cold. It invites us ot turn inward, to nourish and replenish both our physical and mental reserves.
Winter is also linked to the water element, which embodies stillness, reflection and deep energy storage.
My personal observations
When I discovered qigong and began exploring Chinese medicine, I quickly realized that my winter lifestyle was completely out of alignment with yin principles… and nature itself...
I would manage to push through winter and my super-busy work period, but I inevitably would get sick as soon as I would manage to take a vacation in the spring. No surprise there - I had completely exhausted my energy reserves.
How can we adjust?
How do we change course when we're in the heat of the moment and demands, both personal and professional, are coming from every direction?
The importance of introspection
What if you took a step back to analyze the situation? After all, yin energy invites us to introspection.
Like me, you've probably noticed that many people are talking about their vision boards, intentions and goals for the year.
Without adding yet another task to your already full days, I believe the reflections that accompany these practices are essential - and perfectly aligned with what nature encourages us to do. After all, how can we pursue our dreams if we don't take the time to clarify what we truly want?
Winter invites us to turn inward, to embark on a small introspective journey, and to reflect on the past 12 months.
An invitation to reflect
Here are a few questions you can ask yourself, objectively and without judgment:
What were your accomplishments this year?
How aligned were they with the goals you had set (if any)?
What were your wins… and your missteps?
What lessons can you draw from your experiences?
Where could you invest more energy? And where could you invest less?
What would you like to continue? What would you like to change?
And ultimately: how can you better align your actions with your aspirations?
Keep your reflections visible
Write down your insights - put them on paper, or in whatever format feels right!
And keep them somewhere visible, so they can inspire you daily!
Need support?
Did you know that most goals set at the beginning of the year are not followed through… and often forgotten after just a few months, or even weeks?
Don't follow the trend.
Individual coaching can support you in your introspection, help you identify your deeper aspirations, and connect with the motivation that drives them.
We often rely on external resources to reach our goals. Yet we usually have all the internal resources we need.
It's simply a matter of finding the right path to unlock your full potential. A coach can be a valuable ally on this journey.
Give it a try - you’ll see. And the introductory session is free.
Wishing you meaningful reflections!
